Carl R. Spence, age 87, of Seven Mile, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 6:15 a.m. in Fort Hamilton Hospital.  He was born in Hamilton on February 27, 1922 the son of John and Nancy (Steele) Spence.  He was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Army, 4th Division, 22nd Regiment and landed on Utah Beach on D-Day.  He served out his remaining service in the European Theatre and in Germany.  He was very proud of his military service and for the past several years he visited schools and told the students the history of WWII and of his participation. He married Mary Rhoades on October 16, 1945 in New Miami and she preceded him in death on November 1, 2003.   He had been employed by Armco Steel in New Miami and retired as General Foreman of the blast furnace department after 45 years of service.  He was a member of the Seven Mile United Methodist Church, and a former trustee.  He was a former Seven Mile town councilman and a charter member of VFW Chuck Cain Post 7670, Overpeck.  He is survived by two sons, Thomas C. Spence and wife, Darla of Springboro, Ohio and Timothy C. Spence and wife, Sandy of Brimley, Michigan; three grandchildren, Jennifer Spence, Brian Spence and wife, Rebecca and Randy Spence and wife, Heidi and two great grandchildren, Natalie and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Clyde Spence.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N. W. Washington Blvd. with Pastors Chris and Maggie Trumbull officiating.  Burial will be in Hickory Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, February 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The Chuck Cain VFW Post will hold services Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Seven Mile United Methodist Church, 211 Church St. Seven Mile, Ohio 45062, Honor Flight, 300 E. Auburn Avenue, Springfield, Ohio 45505 or Hospice of Southwest Ohio, 7625 Camargo Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45243.
