Mary Ellen Michaels, age 87, of Hamilton died at 8:42 pm at Fort Hamilton Hospital, one January 17, 2010. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on June 27, 1922, the daughter of Edwin L. and Esther L. (Alford) Schwing. She was educated in the Hamilton schools, graduating in 1940. She married George R. Michaels in the Presbyterian Church at Bay City, Michigan on September 13, 1944. She served two years in the U.S. Navy WAVES, yeoman 1st class, during World War II. She was a charter member of the Westwood Presbyterian Church in Hamilton. She is survived by her husband George R. Michaels, daughter Jeanne (Michael) Riechers, and son Edwin (Melonie) Michaels of Hamilton. She is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer (Aaron) Ball, Edwin Jr. (Maggie) Michaels, Molly, Katie, Chris, Elizabeth, and Eric Michaels, and SPC Billy Riechers serving in Iraq, and also four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Esther Poynter, and her brother Charles E. Schwing. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and leaves a legacy of love and kindness. Services for Mary Ellen will be held Saturday January 23rd with the visitation at 1:00 pm and funeral services at 2:00 pm, at the Westwood Presbyterian Church 1068 Stahlheber Rd. in Hamilton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Westwood Presbyterian Church.
